01 — Osaka
Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri
A danjiri (festival cart) festival with more than 300 years of history, which began with an Inari festival held by the lord of Kishiwada in the mid-Edo period to pray for abundant harvests.
02 — Nagasaki
Nagasaki Kunchi
The autumn grand festival of Suwa Shrine, Nagasaki's tutelary shrine, known for its solemn divine procession and the varied dances offered by the odori-cho neighbourhoods.
Typically: Annually for three days, October 7–9
03 — Okinawa
Naha Great Tug-of-War (Naha Otsunahiki)
A great tug-of-war that carries on the tradition of the Naha Yomachi-zuna of the Ryukyu Kingdom era: the female rope of the West and the male rope of the East are joined and pulled against each other on National Route 58.
Typically: Annually in October, on the Sunday before the national Sports Day holiday (formerly Health and Sports Day)
